Here’s a photo of impurity atoms on copper. At this level things look stable and orderly (see STM image gallery), but deeper, it’s all energy: the so-called quantum fluctuations that are weirdly influenced by humans. If you can’t tell what kind of atoms are forming in my "Energetics" paintings, maybe it’s because you haven’t decided yet.
